Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in
Illinois and was raised in Chicago. Amy resided in Glen Ellyn Illinois, right
up to the time she entered junior college. Her family also resided in the
Middle East, where her parents, Bob (and Barb) taught at the American School.
Amy is the youngest of three siblings, sisters Betsy and Lori and Joe, the
brother. Joe. Amy has backpacked all over Europe with her family , and on her
own. Because her parents worked as teachers and teachers, they could enjoy
every summer with each other, traveling and camping throughout the United
States. They have spent time camping in every state other than Alaska. Amy was
in Rwanda in 1994 after the war to assist with relief efforts. Amy was a
talented actor in school productions and was a winner of writing contests. In
high school she was an accomplished athlete who placed in the first ever 3200
meter relay in the Illinois girls track. After college, she suffered an injury,
she returned to the stage with a variety of roles on stage. Her first was
Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and directing Wallace Shawn's
"Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy attended Knox College in Galesburg,
Illinois and graduated with the degree of B.A. in East Asian history and a
concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago shortly after and then studied
Improv at the Improv Olympic, and performed in the theater at The Actor's
Center. A contract role on the now defunct soap drama Another World (1964)
moved her to NYC right after graduating. She was nominated for the "Outstanding
Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series" category for Daytime Emmy
Award. Her most memorable roles were those played by women who are strong, such
as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and
Tom Berenger in Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003).
Carlson resides in New York City with husband Syd Butler, the bassist of Les
Savy Fav, where she is also employed in the music industry as an independent
business as the co-owner of the independent label "Frenchkiss
Records". Amy is continuing to write and look for unique and diverse roles
in the film industry.
