Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born on May 3rd,
1986. She was trained at the Cours Florent drama school in Paris and has
appeared in such films as Loup (2009), Sleepless Night (2011) and Hacker's Game
(2015). She plays the role of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and
Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City to a Korean
father and French-Russian mother. He was employed as a consul for the French
government. Eugene Klementieff, a painter was her grandfather. Because it is a
resemblance to the Korean words for "spring" or "tiger",
her parents gave their daughter the name Pom. The actress spent a year in
Canada before her family moved throughout the world because of her father's
work. Prior to moving to France the family lived in Japan and on the Ivory
Coast. Klementieff lost her father to cancer at the age of five. Her mother was
also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her aunt
and paternal uncle. Her uncle, whom she described as "like her second
father" passed away on her 18th birthday and her older brother took his
own life just seven years after, but this time on her 25th birthday. After the
passing of her uncle, Klementieff was a law student for a brief time to delight
her aunt. However, she did not find the career path appealing. She was also an
waitress in France and a saleswoman. She began acting at age 19 at the Cours
Florent drama school in Paris. She was just a few months into her studies when
she won a theater contest that granted her two years of class with some of the
most renowned teachers in the school. Klementieff was the first person to
perform professionally in the independent French film Apres lui (2007). She
played the role of the step-daughter of the main character Catherine Deneuve.
The filming process was a three-day process. In one scene, she was supposed to
push a person down the stairs but accidentally fell down the steps herself, as
did director Gael Morel kept that shot in the final film. Her first lead role
was in Loup (2009) the French film that follows a tribe of reindeer herders who
live in the Siberian mountains. While filming, Klementieff was in a camping
area, which was hours away from the nearest village where temperatures dropped
to below freezing.
