Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 11 January
2015) was a Swedish actress who appeared in American and European films,
renowned for her beautiful and striking silhouette. Her fame was heightened by
her iconic character in the role of Sylvia in the Federico Fellini film La
Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg mostly worked in Italy which was her permanent
resident in the year 1964. Anita Ekberg was the eighth child in a family of
eight. Anita was a fashion model during her teens. Ekberg on the advice by her
mother in 1950 she entered Miss Malmo. The contest was won by her in the Miss
Sweden contest. Even though she spoke very little English she travelled to the
United States to compete in the Miss Universe 1951 title. This was an
non-official pageant at the time. The pageant was made officially recognized in
1952. Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe pageant. However she was one of six
finalists. Universal Studios offered her the chance to sign a starlet contract.
Ekberg was an Universal Starlet, where she was taught acting, dancing, and
drama. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and
Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) and The Golden Blade (53).
