Amanda Tapping (born 28 August 1965) is an English-born Canadian actor and director.   Her most well-known part is as Samantha Carter on the Canadian-American military sci-fi television show Stargate SG-1.   She also was the main character of the television series science-fiction-fantasy Sanctuary.   She attended North Toronto Collegiate Institute, where she excelled in Environmental Science and Drama.   When she graduated in 1984, Tapping decided to concentrate her studies on drama and went to the University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts.
